Farming’s environmental impact and its ability to sequester carbon is under the spotlight like never before, there is much talk of soil protection, management and making carbon pay. This year, the Soil and Water Management Centre conference strongly addresses these issues with a group of leading farmers and researchers.

Now in its ninth year, the annual Game and Wildlife Conservation Trusts Big Farmland Bird Count kicks off across the country from 4 – 20 February 2022 and aims to celebrate the positive work done by land managers to help reverse the decline in British farmland birds, as well as providing a snapshot of how the UK’s bird species are doing.

The latest assessment of the status of the UK’s birds, the Birds of Conservation Concern (BoCC) list, was published in December, and sadly it shows that more than one in four UK bird species is in serious trouble. Land managers can make a real difference to these declining numbers by adopting effective conservation measures on farm, and the BFBC is an effective way to measure the difference that you are making.
