CFE Virtual Workshop - An Introduction to Farm Carbon Calculators

Carbon footprint_12643Championing the Farmed Environment invites you to an evening webinar of talks and discussion on getting started with carbon calculations on your farm

The NFU has set farming the goal of reaching net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. As well as improving farm efficiency and accessing future carbon sequestration opportunities, getting to grips with using farm carbon calculators will be vital for us to reach this target. Our panel of Owen Standen from Natural England, Harriet Henrick from NFU and farmer Tom Bradshaw will set the scene and lead you through the basics of using some of the tools available to you.

Short talks will be followed by an open discussion session in which you are invited to put your questions to our panel:

Owen Standen – Farming and the Bigger Picture

Owen is leading on developing Catchment Sensitive Farming advice to farmers on climate change in Kent and E Sussex. With agriculture part of the net zero solution, as both an emissions source and a sink, he will talk about how the NFU initiative links to the wider GHG and climate change issues and the UK’s aim for net zero by 2050.

Harriet Henrick – Zero Carbon Farming

Harriet is the NFU livestock adviser and is currently helping a group of farmers with carbon footprint calculations on their farms. She will talk about using carbon calculators in the livestock sector and some of the practical measures farmers can take to reduce their carbon footprint and make financial savings.

Tom Bradshaw – Carbon Footprinting My Farm

Tom Bradshaw is the NFU vice president, and has tested 3 of the most commonly used carbon calculators on his 345 ha farm in Essex growing combinable crops. He will give an arable farmer farmer’s view of using them, what data needed to go in – and what he got out of them.
