Test your knowledge of Nutrient Management

Last updated: 21 Dec 2017

CFE has launched a new online tool to help farmers new to nutrient management and advisers to test their knowledge. Developed by the industry-led Tried & Tested Professional Nutrient Management Group, the multiple choice quiz is available through the Campaign for the Farmed Environment’s website.

With five sections covering soil testing, application near watercourses, Nitrate Vulnerable Zones, environmental impacts and the characteristics of different nutrient sources, it is a comprehensive and convenient tool.

Good nutrient management is essential to ensure you are applying fertilisers cost-effectively, have balanced soils and are complying with regulations, particularly in NVZs. Farm productivity hinges on nutrient availability and precise application also protects watercourses.

Take the Nutrient Management Training Module

CFE Project Officer Anna Cuckow said: “This new quiz will be a valuable addition to our popular, current training modules on the CFE voluntary measures and providing for pollinators. Although the pass mark is quite high, we are confident farmers and advisers will rise to the challenge. And it is possible have a second go if necessary!”

Philippa Arnold, Tried & Tested Project Office said: “This quiz complements Tried & Tested’s free resources which help with creating a Nutrient Management Plan, feed planning and managing manures. We’ve had over 3,000 orders this year and urge more farmers and advisers to take advantage of this offer. We can post printed copies and updated memory sticks and all our resources can also be downloaded from the Tried & Tested website”.
