Big Farmland Bird Count for 2017 - ID days

Last updated: 29 Sep 2016

What is the BFBC?

The fourth Big Farmland Bird Count is taking place from 3rd – 12th February 2017. All you have to do is spend about 30 minutes recording the species and number of birds seen on one particular area of the farm.

Why Count?

Farmers, gamekeepers and landowners are crucial in the survival and protection of many farmland bird species. However, several of these birds are in decline and efforts to monitor their numbers varies across the country. This is your chance to find out what you have on your farm and let us know!Farm walk - wild bird cover (kale)_21448

Need ID help?

If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, do not fear. GWCT are running a series of events across the country so you can brush up on your farmland bird ID.

Each day will be run by a farmland bird expert alongside a host farmer. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day. There’s a maximum of 25 participants for each day so be sure to reserve a place. At the end of the training we hope that participants could recognise the top 20 bird species likely to be seen on farmland over winter.

If you join one of GWCT's ID days, you could be in with a chance of winning a 1-acre bag of Wild Bird or Pollen and Nectar basic seed mix kindly donated by Kings Crops.
