Call to Action – Bees’ needs: food and a home

In July 2014, Lord de Mauley launched the National Pollinator Strategy ‘Call to Action’Bee in flight_275_182.

He said:

“Pollinators such as bees are vital to the environment and I want to make sure that we do all we can to safeguard them. That’s why we’re launching our call to action and leading on a nationwide strategy for pollinators. By working together and taking a few simple actions, we can all play a part in helping our bees, no matter how small or large the contribution.”

People are urged to help create or improve a habitat for all pollinators in five simple ways:

1.      Grow more flowers, shrubs and trees

2.      Leave patches of land to grow wild and weedy

3.      Cut grass less often

4.      Avoid disturbing or destroying nesting or hibernating insects

5.      Think carefully about whether to use pesticides

Further information on each of these simple actions is available at www.beesneeds.org.uk/
