Beacon Farmers

To help demonstrate the Campaign in practice in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, our beacon farmers are willing to show how they have implemented biodiversity measures on their land. These measures are specifically tailored to fit in with their production targets while still supporting the diversity of wildlife, plants and resources on the land.

I own 11acres of mixed woodland in N Bucks. I manage it for firewood, charcoal, hedging materials and wild life. I do not receive any grants but I am working in sympathy with the local wild life group - BBOWT

In 1948 a wartime aerodrome was handed back to the original land owners. On our part of this we have removed runways, planted many hundreds of hedge plans now well established and a few trees. As well as renewing our ELS in July this year we have also been accepted for HLS. We hope to carry the restoration of the Old Aerodrome further under our agreement with HLS. We have also done much over the last sixty years to plant trees and encourage wildlife. As well as game strips in all parts of the farm we have well established buffer strips by water courses and try to farm on a sound basis both from the food production need and to maintain wildlife.
