The Campaign for the Farmed Environment voluntary measures for 2011/12 are officially recorded in February through a Defra postal survey.
If you do not receive the survey you can record voluntary measures that you have put in place to support the CFE using the online record
This facility does not replace the Defra survey which is sent out each year to 5,500 farmers and land managers.

I have a 60 ha holding since 1992 planted entirely in broadleaf trees for energy wood production. Also four wildlife ponds and a 1 ha lake with 3 miles of perimeter track and many forest rides. We have here every furry & feathered creature living in the British Isles.

Please could we have an uplift in payments for ELS on wild flower and pollen mixtures. I dont want NR and allow grasses into the fields. Let's put something back into the countryside with colour, diversity and the added benefits for the insects flora and fauna. The incresed payment is for seed and extra work to establish every two yrs or so. At the moment I am not in the scheme but am LEAF marque and voluntarily plant/drill 2ha of flowers etc for the reward of seeing sparrows back on the farm and the colour of the flowers and the public's thanks and noise of the insects. Can this be done? A frustrated non ELS farmer...

On our 192 ha, we are in both CSS and ELS, with the latter renewed this year. You ask about ELS options, they include:
- hedgerow and ditch management,
- perm grass, low inputs,
- protection of in-field trees,
- field corner mngmnt
- further OW stubble (beyond what is in CSS)
- most buffer strips are in CSS, but there is a bit further in ELS.
Beyond that, we have a 3 Ha Farm Woodland scheme planted about 5 yrs ago. We have 1.5 ha parts of a former set-aside. area that we have left in grass (and reeds)
We also have a recent duck pond 0.13ha
Can we just be allowed to farm the rest? In peace?
